at the Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village
Welcome to Blast from the Past, the Ohio Historical Society's summer camp program that provides kids with the ultimate summer adventure- a trip through time! Choose from among 8 age appropriate, weeklong day camps to explore different aspects of Ohio's past. Most camps offer a day trip to an Ohio Historical Site as part of the camp.
Blast from the Past programs take place June 15-August 7, 2009 at the Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village. Each camp is one-week long and takes place Monday through Friday 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Programs are geared for kids age 6-14 years-old. Extended care options are available.

Descriptions of Summer Camp Tracks
Eager Reader's History Club (Ages 6-8)
A great way to introduce younger campers to history. Each day the campers read a new children’s book about famous people and events in history, explore the museum and Ohio Village, and then learn more through songs, crafts, and games.
SOUL! (Ages 6-8)
Campers learn about African-American history by exploring art in all its forms and then have fun creating their own.
Digging Through the Past (Ages 9-11)
Are the adventures of Indiana Jones really archaeology? Spend a week with an OHS archaeologist at the Ohio Historical Center and learn the answer. Campers will work in teams on a simulated excavation where they will learn to excavate, screen, measure, map, draw and collect artifacts. Campers will take a day-trip to an OHS research excavation to apply their knowledge and skills. You’ll learn to really dig history!
SOUL! (Ages 9-11)
Campers learn about African-American history by exploring art in all its forms and then have fun creating their own. Campers will take a day-trip to the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center.
Space Station Armstrong (Ages 9-11)
Spend the week exploring Ohio’s rich air and space history. Campers perform experiment, work on a space stations, and “travel” on a shuttle mission to the moon. Campers will take a day-trip to the Armstrong Air & Space Museum. The week will end with campers building and launching their own model rockets. It’s one small camp for OHS, but one giant summer for the kids!
Invent Ohio (Ages 9-11)
Do you know where the first airplane, barbed wire, disposable diapers and the self-walking golf ball were invented? They were all invented right here in Ohio! Join us as we explore the wonderful, and sometimes wacky, world of Ohio inventions. Each day campers learn about a new Ohio invention and snack on a food first made in Ohio, and take a day-trip to Adena Mansion & Gardens. At the end of the week campers will present their own inventions to the “Ohio Village Patent Office.”

Grandparents and Grandkids: Your Place in History (Adult)
Grandparents, are you looking for a way to share some time, and some family history, with your grandchildren? This camp is for one child and one grandparent to spend the week together with activities designed to help share family history. Make a family tree, design a family crest, play old-fashioned games, and just enjoy learning that you both have more in common than you thought.
