In honor of Presidents' Day, take a tour through the 25-acre estate of 19th U.S. President Rutherford B. Hayes using the mode of transportation he used - a horse-drawn sleigh or carriage. Rides are provided by South Creek Clydesdales of Fremont. After the ride, stay for the day and tour the 31-room Hayes mansion and two-story Hayes Museum/Library.
Create a winter memory for your entire family by coming to the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center for a Sleigh Ride through Spiegel Grove. Sleigh rides that will take place 1-4 p.m. Dec. 27, 2011-Dec. 31, 2011 and Feb. 18, 2012-Feb. 20, 2012, weather permitting. Cost is $3 per rider.
Sleigh rides offer the opportunity to experience days of yore, when horses were the main means of transportation. President Hayes and his family often traveled by sleigh, even enjoying leisurely rides through the grounds of their Spiegel Grove estate. Even if there is no snow, this year’s Sleigh Rides through Spiegel Grove participants still will experience a sleigh ride. The sleighs are equipped with wheels!
Tickets for Sleigh Rides through Spiegel Grove are sold the day of the event in the lobby of the Hayes Museum. Riders are reminded to dress according to outdoor temperatures.
