Ohio Village is designed to recreate the appearance of a typical county-seat town in Ohio during the mid 19th century, about the time of the Civil War. Adjacent to the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus, this location remains open as it has for nearly 20 years, to school groups, for private events, and special public events.

July 4, 2009
Glorious Fourth: Independence Day Celebration
Ohio Village, COLUMBUS
noon-5 p.m.
Enjoy a leisurely afternoon of family activities to celebrate the nation's independence, including a grand procession, patriotic speeches, a concert by the Ohio Village Singers and a community dance. Throughout the afternoon, families can enjoy period games, watch an Ohio Village Muffins base ball, play tug-of-war and enter a pie-eating contest. Another fun part of the day will be tasting unique ice cream flavors, treating yourself to a sundae, helping make homemade ice cream and learning the unique history of ice cream. Muffins Club Match

The days are long, the sun is hot, and the Muffins are heating up for another afternoon of base-ball fun at the Ohio Village in Columbus. Come celebrate Independence Day with us by taking in America's pastime! Players wear uniforms and play with equipment from base ball's past. Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival

The summer may be winding down but vintage base ball is still going strong. Come out and enjoy two days of family fun while taking in the largest gathering of vintage base ball teams in the country. More than 25 teams from across the Midwest and beyond square off on fields around the Ohio Village to celebrate base ball "the way it was meant to be played." All Hallow's Eve

A tradition at Ohio Village, this program invites visitors to experience a family-style, 19th-century Halloween celebration. A children's activity area, Halloween traditions, fortune telling, a Museum of Oddities, games and crafts are among the many activities featured this evening. A reading by the bonfire of Washington Irving's Legend of Sleepy Hollow and an appearance by the infamous Headless Horseman finish this fun-filled evening. Refreshments are available for purchase. e. Step into the world of Charles Dickens as Ohio Village revisits the Victorian Christmas made famous in his stories. From plum pudding to that pretty little German toy, the Christmas tree, Dickens created a festive and enduring vision of Christmas. Join us in the village as the spirit of Dickens comes to life through interactions with characters from his writings, cooking demonstrations, hands-on crafts, decorations, caroling, readings by candlelight, street vendors, and many more Victorian holiday traditions. While dining you will be paid a visit by the esteemed author Charles Dickens and be entertained by the Ohio Village Singers as they perform traditional carols. We’re pleased to report that we have increased public events in the Ohio Village. In mid-2006, we added a four-season tent, the Presidents Pavilion, which can accommodate up to 450 people, significantly increasing our capacity for public and private indoor events.


Muffins Baseball Team The Ohio Village Muffins and the Lady Diamonds, 19th-century baseball teams, are fielded by Ohio Historical Society volunteers. The Ohio Village Muffins, founded in 1981, have been featured in Sports Illustrated and the Wall Street Journal, and on National Public Radio and ABC-TV's Good Morning America. Home games begin in May and continue into September.

Ohio Village is located just off of I-71 on 17th Avenue (exit 111) about four miles north of downtown Columbus in Franklin County. After exiting I-71, take the first right off of 17th Avenue, make a slight right almost immediately into the Ohio Historical Society parking lot and continue along the perimeter road to the northside of the Ohio Historical Center where the Ohio Village is located. Please note that online directions using the Ohio Historical Society's address below will take you to the back of the Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village. There are no public entrances to either facility from Velma Avenue.
