The two pieces containing her age and name were pieced by her a few weeks previous to her death. None but the names of relations are inserted in it. Except our pastor Rev’d John W. Clark. Finished by Mrs. A.D. Cady, in August 1852 in the 51st year of her age. This Quilt is for Eva Cady and upon her decease it is to be given to D.K. Cady, Jr. and so on down to the nearest relation. Written by D.K. Cady, Jr. Cincinnati, Ohio."
Ann Eliza Cady wrote the above inscription in ink on this quilt along with the names and dates of her six children who preceded her in death. The quilt is inscribed to seven-year-old Eva Cady, the youngest and only surviving girl.
Quilter’s Corner
The Cady Family quilt is made of cream-colored squares appliquéd with fleur-de-lis in green and red tiny prints. At the center of each is the name and signature of a family member or their pastor, Reverend Clark. The appliquéd blocks are separated by lattice strips that have a floral motif printed in cream, ecru, red, black, and blue with cornerstones of solid cream cotton.
