The Ohio Historical Center

Providing a distinctive blend of dramatic displays and prize-winning architecture, the Ohio Historical Center offers a sophisticated setting for formal events.

Depending upon the size of the function you are interested in, you can choose either a portion of or entire facility for exclusive, after-hour use. Whether you want to host a lavish anniversary banquet or an informal office party, the Ohio Historical Center can provide your group with a stylish backdrop for your special occasion.

The entrance level of the center can provide a unique setting for dinners and receptions. Surrounded by windows that afford a view of downtown Columbus, the area can be set with a cocktail bar and food tables.

Red Carpet Area

The Red Carpet area is located in the center of the museum exhibit floor and directly beneath the Plaza terrace. The Red Carpet area can be used for small sit down dinners or upscale corporate cocktail parties, or in combination with events held on the plaza to create a dramatic multi-level event. The museum collections encircling the Red Carpet area make it a highly desirable space that adds distinction to any event.

This more intimate gallery is located at the entry of the Two Centuries of Change mall. The StreetCar Gallery is so named because of the renovated turn of the century streetcar located inside. The Gallery is perfect for receptions for events in the Plaza Terrace or an intimate event for smaller groups.

Contemporary in its design, the auditorium is used by many groups for meetings, seminars, and presentations. The room features a stage, a podium and microphone, and comfortable seating. Additional audio-visual capabilities are available with technical equipment and support.
The auditorium features:

  1. A 7700 lumen presentation projector that provides excellent resolution whether the house lights are dimmed or not
  2. A retractable screen provides an image size of 12' x 12'
  3. Wireless microphones, both hand-held and lavaliere (lapel clipped)
  4. Bose Panaray loudspeakers provide fantastic voice clarity and intelligibility
  5. subwoofers under the stage supplement the sound system for music presentations
  6. wireless controllers operate a number of sources: DVD, CD, VCR, and computer
  7. A handheld remote control operates and mutes the projector, which is ideal for Powerpoint presentations

The museum's educational classrooms offer yet another space for afternoon, evening or weekend programs, based on availability. A sliding wall that separates the classrooms may be opened to make a larger space. The rooms are conveniently located near the lower level entrance and are furnished with up to fifty black padded chairs. Tables are available from the society at a nominal fee.

The "Bird Sanctuary Gallery", features large windows overlooking a natural area, set aside to attract Ohio's various birds, and the archaeology park where archeological interpretive programming is done. Located adjacent to the museum's auditorium, the gallery is perfect for luncheons and receptions following programs scheduled in the auditorium, or on its own for individual smaller events and functions.

The outdoor amphitheater space is located between the Ohio Historical Center and Ohio Village. The park area features a stage located underneath the bridge which is fully audio-visual capable. The Teacher's Park is an ideal location for outdoor concert or picnic activities.

This conference room is located on the third floor of the Historical Center across from the Archives and Library. This room is set up with comfortable cushioned chairs and portable conference tables. There is a built in white board and counter space for breaks.
