President Harding's Home currently is accepting registrations for its next History Detectives children's program on July 14. The session is scheduled for 9:30-11:30 a.m. The session has limited space and is geared for children ages 8-12.
On July 14, the History Detectives will tackle The Case of the Iron Horse. They will investigate how people in the late 1800s and early 1900s got around. The detectives will tackle the world of transportation, using clues from the Harding Home to piece together the story of the types of transportation that Warren and Florence Harding used and owned. We'll only stop our sleuthing long enough to grab a snack and make a cool craft to take home.
The final mystery of the summer series, which includes a morning and afternoon session, takes place on August 11, where the History Detectives will piece together The Case of the Pickled Beet. What did Warren and Florence Harding eat? Did they grow their own fruits and vegetables? Did they shop at Kroger or Wal-Mart? And, most importantly, could they buy Pop Tarts? The detectives will find out by studying the evidence we find at the Harding Home. The Hardings' grocery lists inspire our snack and the detectives also spend a little time making something special to take home.
Pre-registration is required. Parents may register their children for either program, or for both remaining mysteries, by calling the Harding Home at 387-9630. The program fee for each History Detectives mystery is $1 for Ohio Historical Society members and $4 for non-members. Payment is due on the program day.
President Harding's Home is located at 380 Mt. Vernon Ave. and is a site of the Ohio Historical Society.
