Your great-grandfather worked at Roseville Pottery in Zanesville, Ohio. Would you like to see a dish that he might have created? This class will show how objects in the Ohio Historical Society’s collections may help you understand the lives lived by people documented in paper record research. Do you have family heirlooms that you might want to know the history of? Have you wondered how to care for the china or the antique chair that have been kept in your family for generations? Its publishing arm, the American Issue Publishing Co., printed over 40 tons of mail per month. Late Spring Wildflower Hike
Fort Hill - Hillsboro
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Fort Hill State Memorial is a natural wonderland! It is a National Natural Landmark for its richness in both geological wonders and its highly diverse wildflowers. Ohio Historical Society senior curator of natural history Bob Glotzhober will lead this hike along the scenic Gorge Trail. While we will concentrate on the last spring wildflowers, the group will also talk about the geology of the gorge, its six natural bridges and any other natural history topic that catches our attention on the day. The Gorge Trail is 4.2 miles long and can be wet or rugged at times. Bring appropriate footwear and a sack for lunch or snack along the trail. Civil War Clothing Workshop: Dress, Part 2

10 a.m.-4 p.m.: This is the second half of the two-part workshop to make an 1860s dress. It will be a time for anyone who didn't complete their dress in the first session to finish. You are not required to attend this workshop if you finished your dress at the first workshop. $120 for the two-part workshop (Part 1 is on Saturday, April 21), advance registration required: 800.686.1541. This is one of five hands-on Civil War Clothing Workshops in which you can learn to make an Apron (March 17), Dress, Part 1 (April 21), Dress, Part 2 (May 19), Man's Shirt (June 16) and Bonnets (Aug. 18). Each of the five hands-on workshops is $60 ($120 for the two-day Dress workshop), or attend all five for $250. Advance registration is required. Workshop fees do not include cost of materials, patterns or notions. Once registered for the workshop, participants will receive a list of approved patterns, fabric yardage and notions needed.
