This copper crescent ornament from Eagle Mound might represent a crescent moon or perhaps a feather. Copper is not found naturally in Ohio except as occasional chunks in glacial grooves. Ancient American Indian artisans obtained most of their copper from deposits in the Lake Superior region. They may have acquired the copper through trade networks or pilgrims may have brought the copper ornaments here as offerings. A958-3

2,000-Year-Old Artifacts From Newark Earthworks Displayed for First Time
2,000-year-old artifacts found at the Newark Earthworks will be on display for the first time at the Great Circle Museum in Heath, Ohio.

"Very little has ever been published about the results of these excavations and the artifacts have never been displayed until now," said Brad Lepper, Ohio Historical Society archaeologist. "The Ohio Historical Society has brought these artifacts back home to Newark where they now form a key part of the new exhibits at the Great Circle Museum." More…
