Echoes in Time Theatre Presents 'An Evening with Paul Laurence Dunbar'
Ohio Historical Center, COLUMBUS
7 and 8 p.m.

Paul Laurence Dunbar was the first African American to gain national eminence as a poet. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of ex-slaves and a classmate of Orville Wright of aviation fame. Although he lived to be only 33 years old, Dunbar was prolific, writing short stories, novels, librettos, plays, songs, and essays as well as the poetry for which he became well known. He was popular with black and white readers of his day, and his works are celebrated today by scholars and schoolchildren alike. Don't miss this portrayal by Anthony Gibbs of Canal Winchester, Ohio. Flint Ridge Knap-In

The Ohio Historical Society and the Flint Ridge Lithic Society partner to present this unique gathering of individuals from all over the country who are skilled in the ancient craft of making tools and weapons from flint and other stone materials. There is a large selection of flint products for sale and flint knapping and other ancient skill technology demonstrations are held throughout the event. On Saturday, an archaeologist will be present to identify artifacts brought in by the public. There also will be long dart competitions sponsored by the Ohio Atlatl Association. Admission: $5/car. Ohio Cup Vintage Base Ball Festival

The summer may be winding down but vintage base ball is still going strong. Come out and enjoy two days of family fun while taking in the largest gathering of vintage base ball teams in the country. More than 25 teams from across the Midwest and beyond square off on fields around the Ohio Village to celebrate base ball "the way it was meant to be played." Piqua Heritage Festival

The Piqua Heritage Festival highlights and brings to life the rich history of the Piqua Area. This annual event brings thousands of visitors each year to the Piqua Historical Area . The festival grounds will be filled with food stands, artisan and craft booths, a variety of children's activities and an 1870s encampment. The Johnston farmhouse, site museum and canal boat will also be available to guests. Due to construction, a free shuttle service is available at the Miami Valley Centre Mall, I-75 and US 36. Archaeology Road Show

19th Century Preserving Class
Zoar Village, ZOAR

Learn the techniques of preserving food from the harvest for the winter months using 19th-century techniques such as drying, meat and egg preservation and making preserves. The class demonstrates the period methods, although they are not recommended for modern use. A light snack will be served and each person will receive a commercially prepared jar of preserves. 'After Obama: Race and Politics in Cincinnati' Watch Party

Presented by the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the town hall meeting live broadcast from Cincinnati will feature former congressman and UN Ambassador Andrew Young in a panel discussion exploring issues of race, equality, social justice and history. Viewers at the watch party will also have opportunities to participate during the one-hour broadcast and subsequent 30-minute online program through real time polling and social media, including Twitter.
