Echoes in Time Theatre Presents "An Evening with the Post, America's Most Read Magazine"

Norman Rockwell is most famous for the cover illustrations depicting everyday life he created for The Saturday Evening Post magazine over four decades. Consisting of current events articles, editorials, humor, poetry and original works of fiction, the publication kept America well informed and entertained. Find out from one of its editors how the Post became one of America's most respected magazines and launched the career of America's best-loved illustrator. Genealogy Workshops - "The Cornerstones of Genealogy"

This course establishes the foundation for all further genealogical research. It provides the beginning genealogist or family historian with the scope, understanding and sources of information used to prepare a family tree or family history. The workshops topics include military records, church records, identifying female ancestors, importance of source documentation, newspapers, family portraits, obscure sources and record preservation. Participants will learn the uses and sources of Vital Statistics, Census Records, Land Records and Probate Files. Wahkeena's Winter Wonderland Hike
Wahkeena Preserve, near LANCASTER

This winter off-trail hike gives visitors a view of the more remote areas of the preserve that are inaccessible during other seasons. The site's topography can be seen clearly and you might be surprised at the vitality of the winter landscapes. School's Out Camp: Rockwell's America

Join the Ohio Historical Society and COSI for a technology day camp on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Children ages 5-11 will literally step into and interact with life-size, 3-D recreations of Norman Rockwell's Saturday Evening Post Covers. Through interactive hands-on activities campers will explore the technology and inventions that changed the way we lived in the 20th century. Hearth Oven Bread Baking Class

Learn the basics of hearth oven baking as class participants work together to mix a historic German bread dough recipe and prepare it for baking. Genealogy Workshops - "Understanding the Probate Process"

Probate is the legal process of settling the estate of a deceased person. Very often the probate file is a veritable gold mine of genealogical information. This course describes the probate process both when there is a will and when no will exists. It explains the legal language involved, so that one is able one to recognize various documents and understand their purpose. The value court cases as genealogical date sources also is discussed as well as the relevance of land records involved in probate. The course includes a description of land surveys and land record files with their location in the courthouse.
