Zoar Community Association Harvest Festival

The 36th Annual Harvest Festival commemorates a yearly separatist event of the bringing in of the last load of summer wheat. Crafters, antique dealers and sutlers sell their wares and the Ohio Historical Society's Bakery, Museum Store and other museum buildings are open and included in the admission. Guests can visit a Civil War camp as well as a Revolutionary War cooks camp. Children's period amusements are located in the Zoar garden, which is at its peak during this event. Muffins Vintage Base Ball: Celebrating African-American Base-Ball Heritage

It may be the "dog days" of summer but the Muffins are still swinging away at another summer afternoon of vintage base-ball fun. Come join the excitement at the Ohio Village in Columbus as the Muffins honor the heritage of African Americans in base ball. First up, the Blue Ashlars will take on the Carey Cayugas at 12:30 p.m. Then the Muffins go up to bat against the Linden-McKinley Alumni team at 1:45 p.m. Special programs, unique encounters with players from the past and more await you. At 3:30 p.m., the Freetown Village Singers of Indianapolis will tell stories and perform traditional folk songs and Negro spirituals, such as "Wade in the Water," "Swing Low Sweet Chariot," "Go Down Moses." Dressed in period clothing and singing a cappella, the singers provide a living experience in African American history that is unequalled anywhere. A Taste of Ohio's Heritage

The evening begins with a taste-test of several varieties of heirloom tomatoes fresh from the gardens of Adena. An Evening of Feasting, Music and Canaling

After a relaxing dinner in the Historic Indian and Canal Museum, guests will experience a twilight ride on the General Harrison canalboat as it glides the entire length of our restored stretch of the Miami and Erie Canal. Echoes in Time Theatre Presents 'An Evening with Paul Laurence Dunbar'

Paul Laurence Dunbar was the first African American to gain national eminence as a poet. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was the son of ex-slaves and a classmate of Orville Wright of aviation fame. Although he lived to be only 33 years old, Dunbar was prolific, writing short stories, novels, librettos, plays, songs, and essays as well as the poetry for which he became well known. He was popular with black and white readers of his day, and his works are celebrated today by scholars and schoolchildren alike. Don't miss this portrayal by Anthony Gibbs of Canal Winchester, Ohio.
