A Day of Remembrance: 100th Anniversary of the Fort Meigs Monument
Fort Meigs, PERRYSBURG
9:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

The monument at Fort Meigs was dedicated in September, 1908 to honor the men and women who served at Fort Meigs during the War of 1812. Help us celebrate the 100th anniversary of this important monument and remember the sacrifices of the soldiers who fought here in 1813. War of 1812 soldiers and American Civil War soldiers present camp life demonstrations. The Sons of Union Veterans will represent the Grand Army of the Republic veterans that attended the dedication ceremonies in 1908. See musket and cannon demonstrations and try hands-on activities. Fall Flower Finale at Wahkeena
Wahkeena Preserve, near LANCASTER

The final wildflowers of the year line the sunny edges of the wetlands, forest and the open meadows. Hike the site to see these flowers that are a valuable source of energy for insect preparing for the coming of winter. Find out why the yellow goldenrods are not the main cause of allergies and why it was once revered as a medicinal plant. Other interesting folklore will be discussed. Celebrating the Barn
Piqua Historical Area, PIQUA

In 1808 John Johnston built his massive double pen log barn. Today this barn is one of the oldest of its kind in Ohio and will turn 200 this year. Help us mark its bicentennial by visiting it and, with the partnership of the Miami County Barn Club, other grand barns in Miami County. Upon returning form the tour, travelers may enjoy a picnic and listen to some traditional dulcimer music in Johnston’s barn. Admission: $2 for barn tour.
