Along with the tomatoes, unique heirloom flowers and herbs also will be available. Some of the flowers' names might spark memories from your childhood. Do you remember names like Job's Tears, Rose Campion and Love Lies Bleeding? These are just a few of the plants that will bring back those memories and visions of past gardens. Community Conversations: It Happened in Ohio, Reflections on Kent State

In conjunction with the anniversary of the Kent State tragedy, join us for a discussion with five Ohioans who experienced the tragedies at Kent State firsthand and from differing viewpoints. Panelists include Alan Canfora, one of the nine students wounded on May 4 and current Director of the Kent May 4 Center, Charles Fassinger, commander of the 2nd Squadron 107th Armored Cavalry Regiment and the senior uniformed officer on campus on May 4, Glenn Harper, a private in the Headquarters Company of an Akron National Guard unit, student Franco Ruffini, and KSU journalism major Scott Mueller, who in addition to being on campus during the events, was selected as one of James Michener's editorial assistants for the 1971 book "Kent State: What Happened and Why." The discussion will be facilitated by Dr. Cathy McDaniels-Wilson, professor of psychology at Xavier University who is also a consultant to the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center's Dialogue Zone. Military records generate from three different kinds of status: pre-service, actual service, and post-service. Basically these records fall into three categories: draft or selective service records, service records and benefit records. This course reviews the different kinds of records that apply to each status in relation to a particular conflict. Draft records, military service records, pension files, rosters and militia records are discussed in detail. You will learn what information is in these records, how the information was obtained, where the records are located and how to access them. First Siege 1813 and Memorial Day

The British are coming! United States and British soldiers and Woodland Indians re-create historic 1813 battles at Fort Meigs. See re-created battles, musket and artillery demonstrations, and camp life demonstrations. Returning this year is "1813 Patrol" and a ladies tea. All ladies are invited to attend the tea and learn more about 1812-era food and crafts. Join an "1813 Patrol" and accompany a squad of American soldiers on patrol as they look for the enemy.
New this year is period baking demonstrations. Come see our new period bake oven and learn about the vital role bake ovens played in feeding the army.
On Memorial Day, join the staff and volunteers at Fort Meigs in honoring the men and women of our armed forces. War of 1812 soldiers and civilians reenact camp life throughout the day. A special wreath-laying ceremony takes place at 2 p.m. in front of the monument within the fort. The ceremony ends with the placement of a wreath and musket firing at the Pennsylvania Monument.
