Zoar Community Association Harvest Festival

The 35th annual Harvest Festival commemorates a yearly separatist event of the bringing in of the last load of summer wheat. Crafters, antique dealers and suttlers sell their wares. The Ohio Historical Society Bakery, Museum Store and several museum buildings are open and included in the admission. Visitors can visit a Civil War camp as well as a Revolutionary War cooks camp. Summer Sensations Hikes

With the forest floor now blanketed in shade, the summer wildflowers make their appearance in the sunny meadows and edges of the wetlands. Many of these flowers are tall and showy and attract a variety of insects including butterflies. Join the naturalist as we explore the folklore and natural history of these mid-season bloomers. Summer Weekend Series: A Reconnection from the Past to the Present: Black Hand Gorge and Flint Ridge

Join Mark Welsh of the Native American Indian Center of Central Ohio on a trail walk emphasizing the spiritual connection of Black Hand Gorge to Flint Ridge and the Newark Earthworks. This will also include the perspectives of a flint knapper concerning Flint Ridge and its rich supply of the colorful gemstone. Flint Knapping & Gold Panning

Visitors are invited to join Chris Miller for a presentation of gold prospecting. Learn how to look for likely gold deposits, how glaciers affected gold deposits verses ore gold and watch a demonstration of the tools of the trade such as a slush box and digging tools. Families then get a hands-on opportunity to experience the life of a gold prospector. Miller and Chris Stricklett also demonstrate the ancient art of flintknapping throughout the afternoon. A Contemporary Perspective

The Ohio Historical Society and the Flint Ridge Lithic Society partner to present this unique gathering of individuals from all over the country who are skilled in the ancient craft of making tools and weapons from flint and other stone materials. There is a large selection of flint products for sale and flint knapping and other ancient skill technology demonstrations will be held throughout the event. On Saturday, an archaeologist will be present to identify artifacts brought in by the public. There will also be long dart competitions sponsored by the Ohio Atlatl Association.
